How the newer version of PlasticPortal® is taking shape
Programmers, graphic designers, the editorial team as well as the PlasticPortal® management have been working for months to upgrade it. Each of them brought their perspective on how to improve both the portal's functionality and user experience. All details were carefully refined to reflect the needs of today's users and current trends in the online environment.

What does this project mean to you after 15 years of the portal's operation?
„This is a significant step for PlasticPortal®. In the past, the portal has undergone several facelifts, but now it is a fundamental change. We are switching to new intelligent software that never gets old. It will evolve over time so that new features can be rolled out more easily. This move will ensure that the portal will be 'in' for the next 15 years."

How would you describe the benefits of this upgrade for the future of the portal and its users?
„The main benefit of upgrading the portal is to improve the user experience when working with the portal to make it easier to use, more pleasant to interact with and therefore more valuable to users. With the previous version of the portal, we tried to keep up with the current trends of modern digital media, but from a certain point onwards it was no longer technologically possible.“

As someone who uses the portal every day, how do you evaluate the changes to the portal?
„I like its modern design, the video section, which we didn't have before. I also like the payment gateway that allows direct ordering of services. Also, the price charts for commodity plastics are much clearer.“

What do you see as the biggest challenge in creating a newer version of the portal?
„The biggest challenge was to prepare everything so that the new portal is user-friendly, intuitive and at the same time everything runs like clockwork. Creating the admin environment was also a big challenge, but we had everything well thought out and planned so it will make our job much easier and we can focus on our customers.“

„It will make it faster and more efficient. However, the same applies to portal users. Speed in search is key, and this is what we have focused on in the portal. It makes work more productive and more convenient, which I consider one of its biggest advantages."

How did you contribute to the portal's innovation?
„I personally worked on the category section for several months in order to create a clear section where every user of our portal can find what they are looking for. I also worked on our administrative system, because the big news is not only the frontend, i.e. what the user sees, but also the entire administrative system, through which we add and edit content on the portal.“

What changes in the visual identity of the portal should users notice at first glance?
„It’s definitely the new complementary colour, for better orientation on the portal. And the new bespoke icons for the main categories.”

How long did it take to program the new features and how do they differ from the previous version?
„Programming the new version of the portal took 1029.45 hours of programming, 128.7 working days. This time was of course spread over a longer period as the work was mostly done remotely.The biggest change is the transition to the Laravel framework and the Laravel Nova CMS which gives a lot of variability in the future when expanding the functionalities.
Of course, such a big change also required a complete change of structure at the database level and of course a change of design, which is probably the most noticeable for ordinary users and clients.Part of the changeover was to switch data from the old database to the new one, with a focus on more efficient categorization.
A big advantage that will also be noticeable to ordinary users is the interactivity of filtering in individual sections and the different combinations of filtering parameters.
The new design will bring a clearer and more readable site, linking with the promo.plasticportal.eu website where clients can purchase payments online.
A lot of work has also been done on the CMS level, which of course clients will not see but will help to streamline internal processes.”
