PolyOne Highlights Industry-Leading Developments at Fakuma 2015

New developments in natural fiber reinforced materials, conductive thermoplastics, and in specialty engineered materials for metal replacement will be highlights of the PolyOne stand at the upcoming Fakuma trade show in Germany. In addition, experts from the company will make 15-minute Tech Talk presentations daily at the PolyOne stand (Hall B5, Stand 5316) to offer plastics processors the opportunity to quickly learn more about industry-leading developments. Read on to learn how to arrange a meeting at the show and discuss your challenges with PolyOne’s experts.

“Visitors to our stand at the the Fakuma show have a great opportunity to ask their toughest questions about recently introduced technologies, and learn more about how these industry-leading solutions can positively affect their manufacturing operations and help them grow their business,” commented Holger Kronimus, VP Europe and general manager, Specialty Engineered Materials, Europe for PolyOne.

For PolyOne, the Fakuma show provides an excellent opportunity to update visitors on the status of developments such as its reSound™ NF natural fiber reinforced solutions. Introduced in March 2015, these sustainable formulations—with at least 30% engineered natural fiber by weight—offer an alternative to glass fiber reinforced polypropylene compounds, with comparable mechanical properties at 5-10% lower density.

The introduction of reSound NF natural fiber reinforced solutions quickly drew interest from manufacturers in the automotive and other industries. At Fakuma 2015 PolyOne will announce the availability of the material in brilliant colors to support customers’ projects. The company also will reveal the development of reSound NF formulations for use in the extrusion process, making the material of even greater interest to customers in industries such as building and construction, sport and leisure, furniture manufacturing, and others.

During Fakuma 2015, PolyOne also will present an update to the unique 3D-MID (three dimensional molded interconnect device) manufacturing technology it highlighted at its stand during Fakuma 2014. The technology is successful largely due to the thermally conductive properties of PolyOne’s Therma-Tech™ engineered polymers. In a great collaboration, PolyOne and selected developers these development have succeeded to establish a time- and cost-saving means to produce the 3D-MIDs serving as heat sinks in LED lighting, which could prove an alternative to the complex printed circuit boards now nearly ubiquitous in these applications.

Visitors to Fakuma 2015 are invited to visit PolyOne and attend one of its daily Tech Talk presentations on topics including:

  • Successful replacement of metal with specialty thermoplastics
  • Managing heat with specialty thermoplastics
  • Reducing CO2 emissions with lighter-weight thermoplastics

These concise 15-minute presentations will provide attendees with a technical overview of the possibilities enabled by recent developments in specialty engineered thermoplastics.
