PMES Technologies s.r.o. introduces MOLD BREATHER degassing mould ejectors to the European market

Plastic injection moulding is often plagued by unwanted problems caused by gas trapped in the mould, which negatively affect the quality of production. Our partners in Japan have therefore developed a new, innovative solution called Mold Breather - ejectors that can effectively remove the accumulated gases.

Suppose the gas remains trapped in the mold: frequent production micro-stops – known as “choko-tei” in Japanese – occur in order to clean the tool from deposits accumulated in the venting pins. In some cases, the steel might even corrode, which could result in increased maintenance costs.

A common solution to this might be to increase the fill time for the first stage, so that it allows the majority of the gas to dissipate. With this approach, however, the cycle time would consequently increase, and the same would happen for overall costs.

With its 0.02 mm slits, the Mold Breather resolves both problems of part quality and steel corrosion without affecting the cycle time. For even better performance, it can be combined together with our mold vacuum pump (MAG).

Mold ventilation can go up by as much as 80%. Gas venting reduces the build-up of mold deposits, and hence will substantially reduce mold maintenance frequency. The cleaning itself is straightforward, as it can be accomplished by applying normal tool cleaning spray: it’s not necessary to remove the ejectors from the mold. This simple cleaning of the pin surface is recommended to do daily.

Additionally, the clamping force of the injection molding machine can get significantly reduced by at least 30%, representing an important saving in terms of both energy and investment. The frequency of choko-tei reduces, positively impacting molding and cooling times, which decrease respectively by at least 20% and 30%.

Quality issues in the molded parts decline immensely, with a subsequent reduction in defects within the production process and less material waste.

The Mold Breather is available in different shapes, and can adapt to the majority of plastic materials: in fact, the width of the ejector pin can range between 0.005 and 0.05 mm.

The Mold Breather is already in use at over 2500 Japanese customers across 10 years of experience, demonstrating the unique advantages and benefits it can bring when integrated into the production line. Matsui MFG is now ready to share its “made-in-Japan” expertise with the European sector.
