Residual stresses are mechanical residual stresses that arise in the injection molded part during production. They remain built into the spray even after being ejected from the mold cavity and throughout the life cycle.

Přítomnost a následné změny reziduálních napětí mohou zásadně ovlivnit životnost dílu, změny tvaru dílu s okolní teplotou a v čase. Tyto změny mohou také zhoršit optické vlastnosti vstřikovaných dílů. Životnost forem, obzvláště kalených, může být závislá na hodnotách reziduálního napětí, a to také může zhoršit kvalitu dílu po následných operacích (např. lakování, svařování).
