Polykemi AB: Compounds from three different worlds – Technical plastics – High-performance plastics – Recyclates
At its exhibition stand this year, the global manufacturer of technical thermoplastic compounds, Polykemi AB, based in Ystad, Sweden, is focusing on blends, high-performance plastics PPA GF and high-tech polypropylene for lightweight construction as well as highlighting increasingly important environmental concerns with their products REPRO and REZYcom compounds.
The newest product in the POLYlux PC/PBT MP4011 blend range – for car exteriors for example – is an enhancement that offers the injection moulder a wider processing window and creates a good visual surface on the finished product, which is also reflected in the consistent gloss level. SCANBLEND PC/ASA and ASA/PC continue the theme of colour and gloss level. Motorists' requirements for vehicle interior parts can only be fulfilled through the use of precisely tailored formulations of the compound's composition in combination with the die surface. The product range covers all these specifications.
The subject of reducing the weight of vehicles by using lightweight parts is becoming ever more important to the automotive industry as the years go by and is something that the Development department has been actively working on. Besides the POLYfill PP HC lightweight polypropylene reinforced by glass fibres/minerals, which, depending on specifications and design requirements, can be highly filled and serve the end customer as a replacement for PBT GF or PA GF and PP, Polykemi is introducing the new SCANREX high-performance plastic product range. The premium members of this range are two PPA compounds made of 30% and 50% glass fibre respectively. These two materials replace metal in load-bearing structures and can also be used in engine compartments, e.g. for component casing, air mass measuring valves in the electronics' throttle valve area and around the fuel line.
The subject of the environment will also be focused on here. Motorists' ever increasing demands have caused the Recycling business unit to be split in two – REPRO for standard products and REZYcom for customer-specific properties. The customer can opt for properties that fully satisfy motorists' specifications as if the material was virgin material. The materials pass heat ageing tests at 150 °C and 1000 hours as well as UV resistance tests. This is achieved by thoroughly testing the precursor materials that form at each stage before even 1 kg is transferred to the production area. Materials for the engine compartment and vehicle interior have been approved.
