Mould maker relies on Synventive hot runner systems for perfect shapes and automotive parts

Finke Formenbau GmbH, with manufacturing and development facility in Altenbeken, Deutschland is a tool maker for plastic injection moulding.

In cooperation with the 2012 founded Finke Anwendungstechnik GmbH for small series moulding, Finke offers individual parts to complete solutions. Today both companies employ 131 people.

For Markus Finke, general manager and owner of the company, the focus is on the customer: "Our strategic goal is to provide our customers with a fully integrated tool system as a solution ready for volume production. "Made by Finke" means creativity, precision and reliability. "

Up to 90% of the tools manufactured at Finke are destined for the automotive industry. The company is inextricably linked with the requirements of "just in time production".

Finkes’ tool system solutions offers a clear advantage to the industry: Coordinated production processes combine effectiveness and cost efficiency to guarantee optimum quality and rapid manufacturing to the customers.

Hartwig Feldmann, operations manager at Finke Formenbau, says: “During the entire process the customer has one fixed point of contact, from tool concept to production stage as well as in all issues of service later on. In addition Finke is the right partner for the injection of small batch components.“

At Finke Anwendungstechnik GmbH various injection-molded parts can be produced on machines from 250 to 1,600 tons. These include radiator grilles, trim strips, panels and 2-component parts for light module systems for the interior and exterior. Often these involve high-quality glossy components that are already injected with black high-gloss surface or subsequently undergo a painting or chrome-plating process.

Recently, one part being tackled at Finke was the front grille for the redesigned Audi RS3. The Audi RS3 part is made of the material component Makroblend PC / PET supplied by Bayer AG. Zero-defect components are a prerequisite for the subsequent finishing of the blanks by high-gloss coating, chrome plating and chrome plating with brushed surface optics.

Therefore not only were high expectations being placed on the sophisticated and complex tool, but also on the hot runner system. Particularly this concerns rheological and thermal balancing, as well as possible pressure losses, shearing processes, dwell times, absence of stress in the molded part and homogenous temperature control. With this in mind Finke decided in favor of Synventive hot runner technology.

Hartwig Feldmann: „Our tools include hot runner systems that meet highest demands on perfect quality plastic parts. Previously, we used to think that the systems offered in the market were of the same standard, to the extent that they were also indicated in our customer specifications. Since we ourselves have been injection molding components in small series, we see things differently. Start-up scrap, defective parts and interruptions in production results in enormous process costs. Hot runner systems from Synventive are working with greater process stability and thus permit better production without interruptions. We believe that this is due to the higher strength and stability of the threaded nozzles of the Plug'n Play systems. Harder nozzle tips allow longer service life, while more uniform temperature control and a really good needle guide in the valve gate systems achieve a consistent high level of part quality.

In comparison to hot runner systems of other manufacturers Synventive has proven to be the more reliable for us. So far we have had no issues with leakage with the Synventive systems.”

According to Markus Finke Synventive fits ideally with the Finke philosophy: „We place effectiveness and efficiency in the foreground and, in doing so, consider the overall results and costs of a stable and failure-free production process. We strategically minimize our process costs, thus increasing our internal value added. As a result, we regain investment capital to secure the future of the company site and set ourselves apart from the competition through innovative technological advances.

Economical procurement is certainly a correct basic attitude. Putting priority on minimizing unit costs in procurement as compared with minimizing process costs in series production is not a concept that we consider to have any prospect of long-term success.
