Circular economy and digitalisation are key issues for machine manufacturers. Injection molding manufacturers are now concentrating on machine concepts for processing bioplastic or recyclates are being optimised the energy efficiency of machines is increased and rejects minimised in order to contribute to the circular economy.

Injection molding

Billion

Billion S.A.S.is introduced the new generation of the select high-speed electrical series. The trend towards the circular economy was motivating Billion to demonstrate a sandwich injection molding process with this machine series. Recyclate can be used as a core material without being visible in the end product is demonstrated by billion in collaboration with FM Kunststoff Technik.

Arburg

Arburg GmbH +Co. KG, Lossburg, Germany, was demonstrating not only familiar special processes, such as in-mold labeling (IML), multi component injection molding and thermoplastic foam injection molding. A large area was also devoted to the processing are special materials, including highly filled magnetic plastics bioplastics and recylates. Arburg Is concentrating its circular Economy activities in the “ Arburg green world “ programme.

Engel

Engel Austria GmbH, Schwertberg, Austria, operates system solutions for networking production systems and utilising machine process and production data for the use of into each of the assistant systems. To compensate for the large batch fluctuations in the processing of recycle, Engel makes use of the already established “iQ weight control” system. Even with the change of the recyclate, which was used to simulate severe batch fluctuations at the trade show, this system ensures complete part filling.

KraussMaffei

Kraussmaffei Technologies GmbH, Munich, Germany, was concentrating on the topic of digitalisation at the trade. A digital retrofit allows older machines to be upgraded. Its focus is on the question of how production that grown organically, with older legacy machinery from different manufacturers, can be integrated into a networked manufacturing environment.

At the K 2019 fair, were introduced another the injection molding manufacturers as:

Dr. Boy, Windsor, Sumitomo (SHI) Demag, Wittmann Battenfeld, Husky, BMB, Haitian, Milacron, Plasmatreat, Trexel, MHS, Yizumi, Negri Bossi.

Tooling technology

Resource efficient and environmentally friendly products are the trend in tooling technology.

Starting with the systematic design of manufacturing processes and precise simulation of part manufacture to efficient mould temperature control, numerous exhibitors had many innovations in the field of tooling technology on offer at K 2019.

Hasco

In toolmaking, mould cores are often used for which the temperature control must be as conformal as possible. Especially for this application, Hasco Hasenclever GmbH + Co. KG, Germany, offered at the trade show two new brass spiral cores in one and two-threated design.

Meusburger

The standard manufacturer Meusburger Georg GmbH, Co KG, Austria, with immediate effect offered, besides standard for temperature, mold clapping force and end position control, also sensors for cavity pressure measurement. The E6740 sensor introduced at K 2019 serves for the direct pressure measurement and is thus installed in the cavity surface.

Witosa

With the DE-10, the hot-runner manufacturer Witosa GmbH, Germany, presented a new development for valve-gate applications in very confined spaces. The company has designed the valve-gating system as an application for manifold systems with confined installation conditions, and now offers cavity and row spacings of less than 10 mm, instead of the prior 15 mm.

At the K 2019 fair, manufacturers of tooling technology were presented in large representation. In addition to the aforementioned manufacturers, the following have also been introduced:

Knarr, Simcon, Wema, Haidimair, Strack Norma, Synventive, Günther, Wittmann, RJG, Braunform, Milacron, Ewikon, HB-Therm, Regloplas, Husky

Pipe and Profile Extrusion

In the area of pipe and profile extrusion, the focus remains on increasing efficiency. Optimisation of components and expansion of plant control systems offer potential for improvement.

Sica

With the TRKC 160E electric pipe saw the manufacturer Sica S.p.A., Italy, which manufacturer introduced at his stand, meets the increasing requirements for versatile and precise cutting systems and thus wants to establish a clear differentiation from hydraulic and pneumatic systems. In the future, pipe extrusion lines can be expanded through two new products from the manufacturer.

Bausano

According to the manufacturer Bausano & Figli S.p.A, Italy, sustainable extrusion and energy efficiency are inseparably linked. Inductive cylinder heating as the core of the “smart energy“ system is an expression of this. Efficiency of the heating system is increased by selective and fast heat input. The use of new IR4 motors and the patented “multidrive” system underscore the priority of efficiency at Bausano.

At the K 2019 fair, the following were introduced from the Pipe and Profile extrusion manufacturers:

Battenfeld-cincinnati, Davis-Standard, Herz Dohle Extrusiontechnik, Mabri Vision, ETA

Film extrusion

With innovations in metrology, processing and automatisation, the film industry is again pursuing the goal of process optimisation and digitalisation this year. But efficiency and sustainability are also the focus of the machine manufacturers at K 2019.

Amut Group

The Q-Catcher concept developed by the Amut Group, Italy, has already been presented to an international audience at various conferences and trade fairs. However, the first live demonstration took place at K 2019. According to the manufacturer, the system can reproduce film of exactly the same mechanical properties 100% of the production time.

Reifenhäuser

As already known since the previous K, “EVO Ultra Flat” from Reifenhäuser Blown Film GmbH, Germany, improves the flatness properties of blown film. A new laser-measurement system now enables the improvement to be quantified precisely. Aside from improving flatness, stretching can also increase sustainability as shown by Reifenhäuser.

From Film Extrusion machine manufacturers were introduced at K 2019 fair also: Davis-Standard, Hosokawa Alpine, Brückner Maschinenbau, Bimec, Addex, Brabender

Blow molding

This year’s plastic trade fair in Düsseldorf of Germany was all about the circular economy. Recycling and sustainability, alongside digitalisation are core issues for the plastic industry. Many exhibitors was presenting solutions aimed at more sustainable production.

Bekum

Bekum Machinenfabriken GmbH, Germany, was committed to the circular economy and, with its three-layer heads, offers a solution that enables single-polymer PE or PP plastic scrap to be recycled cost-effectively. With Bekum’s tri-extrusion technology, post consumer recycling material (PCR) can be embedded between layers of virgin polymer.

Meccanoplastica

Meccanoplastica srl, Italy, has been showing new blow molding solutions at K 2019 which claims are highly energy-efficient. In Düsseldorf, the company was unveil its HE550s model, one of its latest generation of all-electric extrusion blow-molding machines.

From manufacturers of blow molding machines presented themselves at the trade also :

Kautex, KHS, Trexel, W. Müller
