Fatra, a.s. - the new (re)granulation line helps us reduce the amount of waste
Our new line, put into operation in 2022, is capable of processing selected heterogeneous technological waste materials, which have so far ended up in landfills or have been destined for sale to external companies because of a lack of technology suitable for their processing into granulate.
The primary focus of the line is processing shredded PES material, which is a mixture of PVC and polyester fibres produced during the manufacture of roof waterproofing membranes. In-house waste in the form of offcuts and non-conforming products containing PES grid is processed on separation lines where the membrane is crushed and then separated by air flow into two fractions - pure PVC and shredded PES material. The pure PVC is then returned to the production process. The resulting shredded material, although containing about 50% high-quality PVC, has been so far a technologically unrecoverable and unused material that was landfilled.
In addition to shredded PES material, the line can also process in-house glass fleece waste from the production of waterproofing membranes and floor coverings, which previously could not be processed because of the small glass fibres released during crushing. The line now allows us to safely process these types of heterogeneous materials as well.
