Quiet Easter
The prices of “commodity” polymers were affected by the following factors last week:
- BRENT oil price 31.48 USD/barrel, slightly rising oil prices
- EUR/USD: 1.0945, weak Euro
- NAPHTHA (European): 145.36 USD/t,
- April contract monomer prices:
- Ethylene (C2) contract price -200 EUR/t (720 EUR/t)
- Propylene (C3) contract price -175 EUR/t (650 EUR/t),
- Styrene monomer (SM) contract price -315 EUR/t (626 EUR/t),
- Producers under maintenance:
- Rompetrol: March 15, 2020- May 5, 2020. (LDPE, PP)
- Unipetrol: April 6, 2020 - May 18, 2020 (HDPE, PP, C2, C3)
- Logistics problems have been solved,
- With the exception of food packaging, a slowdown can be felt in all areas of application,
- Despite the cheap prices, there are no upfront purchases,
- Polymer producers seek to reduce financial risk,
- There are few North American imports
